Wednesday Afternoon, 1:30 – 4:45 pm

This special program provides a timely opportunity to learn about recent advances in Sleep Medicine and how they impact our practice of pulmonology.

Interventional Pulmonology Tools and Techniques: Technology Review, Showcase, Simulations, and Hands-On Learning
Wednesday Afternoon, 1:00 – 4:30 pm

This novel program reviews new technologies and state-of-the-art techniques for:

  • Treating COPD
  • Diagnosis of the solitary pulmonary nodule
  • Management of difficult airways in the ICU
  • Management of emphysema valves
  • Management of an acute airway obstruction
  • Bronchoscopies

Facilitated by Colleen Keyes, MD, MPH and Erik Folch, MD, MSc, renowned specialists in Interventional Pulmonology, participants learn about:

  • The latest options for approaching the pulmonary ailments listed above with minimally invasive procedures
  • Decision-making criteria
  • Benefits and contraindications
  • Tips for performing each procedure covered in this workshop, or if you are referring patients to a specialist, how to set expectations for patients and address their questions

Simulations and Hands-on Learning

Unique to this program is the opportunity to work with these newer technologies. Participants will spend 30 minutes at each of the following seven stations:

  • Station 1: Tunneled pleural catheter                                     
  • Station 2: Acute obstruction of the airway
  • Station 3: Electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy
  • Station 4: Endobronchial ultrasound
  • Station 5: Endobronchial valve placement
  • Station 6: Difficult airway management
  • Station 7: Robot bronchoscopy
